5 Big Benefits that Make WiFi a Great Choice for Homes and Businesses

WiFi has always been a powerful technology, but it was only viable for surfing the web for much of its lifespan. The more video and media we consume online, the more we require a constantly fast and stable connection. WiFi has emerged as one of the best local area networking methods currently in existence. Thanks to new standards that have boosted data transmission speeds, WiFi is now as important to commerce and daily life as any wired connection.

Here are a few of the big benefits that WiFi brings to the modern world.

Easy Setup

WiFi devices have become easier than ever to connect and carry a signal. Most people, even those who are only modestly tech savvy, can set up a wireless router. Of course, most people never need to because a technician will often do it for them at installation. Companies like Suddenlink WiFi do this because it’s a good opportunity for the technician to verify everything is working as intended. You can think of it like troubleshooting before troubleshooting.

Connecting new devices to your router is even easier. There are several options available, including WPS (WiFi Protected Setup). With WPS, no passwords are needed. The device looks for an open signal, connects securely and remembers that connection.

Wider Coverage

Wireless access points (WAPs) allow for a greater range at a much lower cost than a traditional wired network. Wired networks used to be able to sell themselves on transmitting data at a long distance because you used to be able to utilize a hub for linking many devices together. The switch to mobile meant access was necessary wherever the user was, and it’s not possible or practical to carry a chord with you.

Installing a WAP throughout the building, and using a WiFi signal device to detect dead spaces, will allow for complete coverage under one LAN. Assuming the WAPs and Router are all of equal signal strength, there will also be little to no drop in data transmission speed.

Safe & Secure

WiFi boasts very high-quality security in the form of WPA2. With a landline, a thief would need only to plug a device into the network and could brute force access. With WiFi, brute force is still possible but security settings can make it difficult to even locate the network in question. Obscuring network ID, in addition to adding a password, makes WiFi a lot more secure than a landline.

WiFi is also designated safe for use to transmit sensitive data. Public networks are almost always labeled as such, and modern devices are trained to warn users when they are accessing a public network. With a greater emphasis on connecting to a trusted network, WiFi allows for safer connection anywhere the user’s life takes him.

Fast Speeds

WiFi has also gotten a massive speed boost as standards have improved. Most modern routers have a 5GHZ spectrum, offering very fast connection and transmission speeds. It’s the device that has yet to catch up. Soon, faster WiFi will be the standard.

Final Thoughts

WiFi is being looked at a city-wide solution for universal connectivity. It’s the kind of network that is easy enough to maintain and provide decent connection speeds for. It’s also a great option for businesses, which are increasingly empowering workers to move around, team up and get out to accomplish objectives.
